Waltzing Matilda - Abbie Style!

In Te Kākano class we encourage our tamariki to bring a book as a treasure to share with their friends.

Ka pai Abbie for bringing in your awesome 'Waltzing Matilda' book to share as your treasure.

According to culturetrip.com...

Australia’s best-known bush ballad and unofficial national anthem was written in January 1895 by Andrew Barton (Banjo) Paterson (1864-1941). Written to the tune of ‘The Craigielee March’, ‘Waltzing Matilda’ has seen several versions of lyrics released over the last century; however, all hold the same historical significance relating to the hardships of the Australian outback.

What Does ‘Waltzing Matilda’ Mean?‘Waltzing Matilda’ is an iconic song featuring classic Aussie slang in both the lyrics and the title. The term ‘Waltzing’ is slang for travelling on foot, and often you will be travelling with your belongings in a ‘Matilda’.

Sing-a-long time folks...

Oliver's Beanstalk A - Z!...

Once upon a time a boy called Oliver brought in 6 little beans.

Mrs. T got a glass cafetiere and popped some cotton wool, water and a paper towel inside to help them grow.  We could see them growing through the glass.

Each week we monitored them growing and took photos of them to record their growth.

On the last day we planted them out...

Back in class, we decided that we would turn our Big Book into '
Oliver and the Beanstalk' so that our story was even more real!

Last of all we designed and created our own beanstalk that grew up, up, up and around our Castle!

What an adventure...What will happen next?...

Our Awesome First Leg of the YMS Marathon

We are all working together to run an entire marathon because we are all HEROs!

We are signed up to run 3 times a week, 3 times around the Big Field for 11 weeks - all recorded and all totalled to make a Marathon!

The Kidsmarathon will commence on Wednesday 5th June. Students to enlist by Friday 31st May.
Dear Parents/whanau/tamariki at Yaldhurst Model School,
We have the great privilege and honour of being offered the opportunity to host the Rod Dixon Kidsmarathon at Yaldhurst Model School this year.
This fun event encourages the children to commit to running or walking 3x per week ( Monday, Wednesday, Friday) 3 laps of our field for 10 - 12 weeks until they have covered the full marathon distance.
They will be walking or running with friends, laughing and chatting as they go, whilst becoming fitter, healthier, confident individuals.
The motto for this event is" Winning is Finishing and Finishing is Winning". A great adage to be reinforcing with our tamariki.
The children that enter will be issued with a run card. Each time they complete 3 laps of the field they must get this stamped as this will clock their kilometres.  We will have 1 - 2 adults out with the children so they will be encouraged along the way.
Any parent volunteers would be so appreciated.
If your child decides to take part we will be encouraging them to stick with it!  As the feeling of satisfaction upon completion will be enormous for every child that takes part.
The whole school and community will be invited to come out and watch the final kilometre being run or walked and celebrate the athletes success.
Please encourage your child to take part in this great event.
Regards

Gabrielle Lange and Sarah Dods
