Te Kākano loves Maths!

 Te Kākano loves Maths!

Look at these happy faces!  Lilly and Oscar were exploring how to use Numicon materials to make numbers from 20. They wanted to make 100 and found lots of ways to make 10 to do this. Then Lilly and Oscar asked 'Can we see what number we get to if we use all of the Numicon?', so away they went!

This is what they made, 397!

Under- Over - Look at Our Creations!

This week TK1 chose 'Rabbit and Rooster's Ride' for their Big Book to read and enjoy!

From reading this story, we came up with a problem that needed solving using the maths words of 'under' and 'over'.....................

How on earth will Kangaroo cross the water without getting her feet wet????

Will Rabbit and Rooster get wet too???

Will the shark be able to get back out to the ocean to her family???

Look at our AWESOME designs to solve the problems :)

Run, Run, as Fast as I Can...

Who doesn't love Gingerbread Men!
We have been using our Gingerbread Men in all sorts of enthusiastic and cool ways to help us measure and estimate and most definitely have fun - and not just in our Maths experiences!
Especially when it comes to baking our own friendship Gingerbread Men on NZ Anti Bullying Day.
We presented our biscuits to a friend, all wrapped up and ready to munch!
Yum, Yum in my tum...

Autumn Maths

We collected autumn leaves on the little field to use for Maths today. We are learning to measure length using objects we find around us.

Autumn Maths Continues...

...Following our cornflake leaves data collection yesterday, Angela suggested that we could take a look at the different sizes of leaves.

So we went this line of inquiry, went outdoors and collected 2 big leaves and 2 little leaves each, then had fun sorting them into tiny, little, medium and big leaves!

We were amazed that there were 12 tiny leaves but only 3 big ones and yet they were about level in height! Cool eh - we found out that size was very important today NOT how many or what colour!
