We are all working together to run an entire marathon because we are all HEROs!
We are signed up to run 3 times a week, 3 times around the Big Field for 11 weeks - all recorded and all totalled to make a Marathon!
We are signed up to run 3 times a week, 3 times around the Big Field for 11 weeks - all recorded and all totalled to make a Marathon!
The Kidsmarathon will commence on Wednesday 5th June. Students to enlist by Friday 31st May.
Dear Parents/whanau/tamariki at Yaldhurst Model School,
We have the great privilege and honour of being offered the opportunity to host the Rod Dixon Kidsmarathon at Yaldhurst Model School this year.
This fun event encourages the children to commit to running or walking 3x per week ( Monday, Wednesday, Friday) 3 laps of our field for 10 - 12 weeks until they have covered the full marathon distance.
They will be walking or running with friends, laughing and chatting as they go, whilst becoming fitter, healthier, confident individuals.
The motto for this event is" Winning is Finishing and Finishing is Winning". A great adage to be reinforcing with our tamariki.
The children that enter will be issued with a run card. Each time they complete 3 laps of the field they must get this stamped as this will clock their kilometres. We will have 1 - 2 adults out with the children so they will be encouraged along the way.
Any parent volunteers would be so appreciated.
If your child decides to take part we will be encouraging them to stick with it! As the feeling of satisfaction upon completion will be enormous for every child that takes part.
The whole school and community will be invited to come out and watch the final kilometre being run or walked and celebrate the athletes success.
Please encourage your child to take part in this great event.
Regards
Gabrielle Lange and Sarah Dods

Tena koutou Te Kakano. It's Casey again from Te Mahuri 2 and no I did not know that everyone in your class is in the kids marathon! Thanks for replying to my comment, I decided to do the "kids marathon" because I thought I needed to do extra exercise even though I do exercise 30 minutes a day! So now I do 35 minutes a day. How many laps of the field has your class done? ! Can't wait for your reply! Sincerely Casey.
DeleteKia ora Casey,
DeleteHow come you are already doing 30 minutes of exercise each day? We feel puffed out for you!
We have already run 18 laps of the field Casey!
We enjoyed your comments today - thank you!
Ka kite,
Te Kākano
Kia ora Te Kakano,
ReplyDeleteHow great it is to see that you are all participating in the Marathon. It is a really great thing to do. It is interesting that you have shared the letter about the marathon. I imagine it would be helpful for others outside of YMS to understand why we are participating.
Are you enjoying the running and are you feeling fitter yet?
:) Mrs Spragg
Kia ora Mrs Spragg,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment.
We wanted to let our whānau know about our awesome challenge so thanks for looking at this.
Did you know that there is a marathon that runs in Christchurch and mummies and daddies can take their family too?
We really love running and keeping fit because it is important for being a Healthy Individual.
Ka kite,
Te Kākano
Hi,
ReplyDeleteHunters Aunty Harita (he hasn’t met her as she lives in America), is currently nearing the end of ‘The Twenty-Third Annual Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100 mile race’.
It is the worlds longest certified foot race. It starts at 6am and goes to midnight, every day for 52 days.
Harita when she has finished will have run 50000km in 52 days, that’s more than two 42km marathons a day!!!
The Rod Dixon kids marathon is one 42km marathon run over several months...can you imagine running two of them every day for 52 days straight!!! I certainly couldn’t do it, and she has completed them before too.
I wonder how many pairs of shoes she has gone through running such a long distance.
Such a wonderful feeling to accomplish something over a long period of time. I bet the children at YMS will soon get that feeling on their completion date too.
Kia ora Erica,
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant comment - thank you so much!
Aunty Harita has become our marathon HERO!
We want to know...where does she sleep? Is it easy for her to use the bathroom when she is running 2 of our marathons? How does she get to eat her food when she is running? Mrs T would love to know where did aunty Harita start running from and where will she finish, so that we can look it up on google maps?
Thank you and ka kite,
Te Kākano :)
We are really interested in finding out more -
