Christmas Stockings - Thank You Nanny Maureen

Each year a very special and thoughtful gift makes its way from the UK to NZ for our Te Kākano tamariki.

My wonderful mother-in-law, Maureen - aka 'Nanny Maureen', hand cross-stitches and creates a unique tree stocking for each of my lovely children in class.

We then pop a little something inside as an extra gift from us :) This year it was a Candy Cane pencil, a winter themed finger puppet and a peppermint smelly sticker.

Each year you hang it on the tree it's easy to remember the Christmas love from 2020 x

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :)

Tūranga Library and Margaret Mahy Trip for TK1

We just love our class trips and for all of us this was our first official class trip!

We enjoyed a family-based trip to the amazing Tūranga Library where Emily showed us around. We went into the 'Back Room' to see how books are returned and all the machines that help to sort them - way cool!

We explored the library, got to try on dress-ups, had story time and played with the awesome LEGO! We all loved the slide in the middle of the library too!

Kate found a picture of her Great-great Grandad on the historic files and had a photo taken with her mum too!

When we finished up in the library we wandered over to the Margaret Mahy playground for lunch and some serious play time with TK2!

Our class trip was so much fun - Ethan

Mrs T can we go again tomorrow please? - Gus

I never knew the world had so many books! - Laura

Te Kākano 1: End of Year Assembly :)

Ho-Ho-Hope you love the performance as much as we enjoyed presenting it!

Our wee guys have been making their own instruments and costumes, learning their song and performing NZ Sign Language along with their movements!  Not bad for 5 year olds right!

SUPER PROUD :) Love from Mrs T and Mrs V

 TK2 goes on an Expedition!

We have been finding out about insects since Term 3, so on Friday 27 November we went on the bus to find our more about them.

When we arrived at Travis Wetlands we were met by Pete an educator from CCC Learning through Action and some friendly feathered locals.

We learnt about how birds all sound different and to make their calls.  Do you know which birds make these calls?

                 1.  'Kuku'.      2.  'Cheet cheet'      3. 'Scree   Scree.'

We also went on a hunt for minibeasts, we found slaters, spiders and millipedes.

In pairs we found out that all trees feel different from each other.

Then by dressing up as birds and insects  (the parents had to be trees!) we found out what happens if we do not look after all the parts of a forest and what lives there.

After our time with Pete,  we  explored  Travis Wetlands briefly, we think everyone should go there.  There is lots to learn in the information centre and there are lots of birds to see and places to walk.

Here we are on the bus ready for the next part of the adventure - meeting our Te Kakano 1 friends at Margaret Mahy Playground for a picnic.  They had been exploring at Turanga, the wonderful Library in town.

We found different ways to play on the same equipment.

The daredevils among us tried the giant slide and the flying fox! "Weeeeeeee!!"
It was an awesome day and we got back to school just before the rain!

If you would like to know more, please ask us in the comments!

ALSO: If you know the answers to the question about the bird calls write that in the comments too!
