 TK2 goes on an Expedition!

We have been finding out about insects since Term 3, so on Friday 27 November we went on the bus to find our more about them.

When we arrived at Travis Wetlands we were met by Pete an educator from CCC Learning through Action and some friendly feathered locals.

We learnt about how birds all sound different and to make their calls.  Do you know which birds make these calls?

                 1.  'Kuku'.      2.  'Cheet cheet'      3. 'Scree   Scree.'

We also went on a hunt for minibeasts, we found slaters, spiders and millipedes.

In pairs we found out that all trees feel different from each other.

Then by dressing up as birds and insects  (the parents had to be trees!) we found out what happens if we do not look after all the parts of a forest and what lives there.

After our time with Pete,  we  explored  Travis Wetlands briefly, we think everyone should go there.  There is lots to learn in the information centre and there are lots of birds to see and places to walk.

Here we are on the bus ready for the next part of the adventure - meeting our Te Kakano 1 friends at Margaret Mahy Playground for a picnic.  They had been exploring at Turanga, the wonderful Library in town.

We found different ways to play on the same equipment.

The daredevils among us tried the giant slide and the flying fox! "Weeeeeeee!!"
It was an awesome day and we got back to school just before the rain!

If you would like to know more, please ask us in the comments!
