Matua Anton is Working Hard in Kapa Haka
Juniors and Seniors are really making great progress with learning new waiata and haka.
Here's a wee snippet of us learning together and trying our best to be Open-Minded Explorers!
Statistics are actually very cool!
- Especially in Te Kākano!
We have started to discuss Tally Marks, Tally Charts, Pictograms, Bar Graphs and Data! YES, we're only 5 but we ARE HERO Mathematicians :)
Our Big Book this week is 'Kei roto i te moana' so we've also been exploring creatures who live in the seas and oceans, especially around Aotearoa!
We have been counting them, sorting them and using them in our Statistics discussions! We also made a short video showing how we use our bodies to make a tally count for '5' :)

Pattern Making with a Story Friend
We are still loving using The Gingerbread Man to help us with our learning.
Today we all had a go at finishing off repeat patterns using the characters in the story. We had to look carefully at each row and work out which picture came next. Some had a 2-repeat and some had a 3-repeat pattern which was tricky for some of us!
We chatted about our work with Mrs T and we showed her how we could make our work EVEN better!
Run, Run, as Fast as You Can.....
...You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!
Te Kākano NE class has really enjoyed reading different versions of the traditional tale recently and we have even thought up our own characters that we could add into our stories! Cool! We have made finger puppets to use in our Box Theatre and we have also designed our own Gingerbread Men too!
We really enjoyed baking our own Gingerbread Men together - it was so much fun! We wrote out the recipe for Mrs V so she knew what to buy from the supermarket and we made a heap of them for our kai!
Yum, Yum, Yum! We felt as happy as the fox in the story :)
