YMS Speeches for 2020 - Te Kākano

Tino pai to each and every one of our amazing tamariki for choosing, learning and performing their speeches this week.

Our judge Sara, was blown away by the high standard of entries and wanted to give First place to everyone.

She had the very difficult task of choosing placings.  So a massive congratulations to Ethan for Third place, Layla for Second and Kate for First place - Cohen received a highly commended for such a great effort.

Ka pai kids, you did an amazing job!

Kate had an interview with our Principal Mr Robertson who was super proud of all our guys too!

Te Kākano loves Maths!

 Te Kākano loves Maths!

Look at these happy faces!  Lilly and Oscar were exploring how to use Numicon materials to make numbers from 20. They wanted to make 100 and found lots of ways to make 10 to do this. Then Lilly and Oscar asked 'Can we see what number we get to if we use all of the Numicon?', so away they went!

This is what they made, 397!

Under- Over - Look at Our Creations!

This week TK1 chose 'Rabbit and Rooster's Ride' for their Big Book to read and enjoy!

From reading this story, we came up with a problem that needed solving using the maths words of 'under' and 'over'.....................

How on earth will Kangaroo cross the water without getting her feet wet????

Will Rabbit and Rooster get wet too???

Will the shark be able to get back out to the ocean to her family???

Look at our AWESOME designs to solve the problems :)

Making connections through time :)

Thank you for sharing your museum photo Harvey. Thought it was really cool how you recognised the Pātaka at the Christchurch Museum because you had helped to make our classroom one - ka pai Harvey!

Great connections :)

Celebrate Good times, come on....

In a world of changes it is so great to see our tamariki getting on with everything -  a massive ka pai as always from your grown-ups!

We really do love to celebrate success, achievement and everything in between!  We have blogged previously about our HERO cards being awarded and receiving rewards for our deeds on an individual and House Group level, so we wanted to share some examples from the start of term as we are so proud of everyone's great attitude and HERO approach to school :)

Fabulous First Week Fitness!

And strtech 1, 2, 3 and bend 1, 2, 3...

We have had a fabulous start back to term 3 this week.

We have all started our Winter Sports programme and we did our school Cross-Country!

We have warmed up - we have cooled down - we have felt our breathing get faster and slower and felt our heart speed up and slow down too!

Our teachers just said that we must 'Try our best - nothing less!'...

Look at us go!

Hitting the Right Note :)

WOW!!!

How lucky were we this week! CSO (Christchurch Symphony Orchestra) visited YMS to give us a taster of their amazing skills and talents.

They played, explained and even let us try playing their 'guest' instruments!

We got to listen to really famous pieces of music and learned about tempo, pitch and musical families such as the Brass family, String family and the Wind family!

Lots of us want to play an instrument when we grow up :)
