Matariki - Maori New Year

 Matariki marks the celebration of the Maori New Year.  The star constellation Pleiades is referred to as The Matariki constellation and its appearance in our skies over Aotearoa at this time of year is highly significant to this festival. It signals the start of everything growing again for the following year and is celebrated with kai, lanterns, legends and waiata.
