Covid-19 Lockdown Level 4...NO worries about our learning stopping - we just head on over to our class website and have a heap of learning fun with all our awesome learning slides! Thanks Mrs T and Mrs V :)

We also get to Google MEET with our friends each day.  Mr Robertson, Lynda and Mrs Royfee join in too! We are learning how to use our devices to do things like change backgrounds, mute and unmute our mics and leave chat messages!

We have slides for all sorts of learning including some Wellbeing, Reading, Writing, Maths, Fitness, Baking, Science and even making Playdough! Check these out!

Tamariki can share what they want with us:

AWESOME writing, concentric circles, names made from tie-wraps!!!

Max and his dad shared,

"Today I went for two bike rides with Finn, Mum and Dad.

I also made Mud in the Garden next to my trampoline.

I have been practicing reading and writing my heart words."

Scooter-tastic at YMS!

Our amazing new Scooter Track opened up on Thursday and we could not be happier here at YMS!

Our awesome PTA provided a free sausage sizzle to get things started.  We performed Waiata to welcome our guests and presented koha to the key people involved in the process!

Open for business - enjoy the pics!

Please feel free to leave a comment for our tamariki :) Thank you.

YMS Art Celebration 2021

YMS was very proud to showcase our whole school art celebration.  Everyone worked super hard to present an amazing range of art with many items relating to Matariki, the Maori New Year.

We opened the event with our fantastic Kapa Haka supported by our kaiako Matua Anton and Mr Robertson. Senior pupils did an awesome job of welcoming and closing procedures. The whole school performed four waiata including Matariki Macarena dedicated to the nine stars of Matariki (Pleiades)

Miss Chinnery designed and created a really neat programme of events that the audience could use as a 'Gallery-Guide' which detailed what each class had been focusing on.

Installations were set to view in every teaching space and visitors were invited to wander to each space and meet the artist's and to chat about their work.

Ms Lange organised a 'Silent-Auction' with some excellent donated artworks  displayed in the school office area.

She also set-up a 'Guess-Who' line art gallery which allowed everyone to guess which of the ten artists did which work! The person who guesses the most correctly wins an art pack! We had line-art donated from What Now presenters, Crusaders and staff - AWESOME!!!

Enjoy viewing some images from the day - a massive thank you to our amazing community for supporting our lovely wee school's event :)

Geometry in Art

Te Kākano has been exploring Geometry this term and have cleverly used art to represent our ideas.

We found a Russian artist named Wassily Kandinsky who created some amazing artwork using shape and colour so we decide to use his work as our inspiration too.

We learned about the three primary colours, red, blue and yellow and the secondary colours we make from mixing them!

Not only did we learn more about 2D shapes but we got to really think about how art can be used to show what we know too!

The last day of term is our YMS Art Celebration where we will get to showcase our work for visitors!
