Peter and the Wolf - By Te Pihinga

"Ggggrrroooooowwwwwwl!" said theWolf!

We were entertained by a group of students who wanted to share their puppet drama production of the traditional tale 'Peter and the Wolf'.

They had created awesome puppets and Mrs White narrated the tale using a guided reading book on which the activity was based!

Ka Pai Te Pihinga :)

We're Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

Everyday we practise our sounds to help us learn the alphabet sounds and names, alphabetical order and of course to work out how to read our words and to use them all around the place!

Today our letter was 'Z'.  This initiated lots of discussion around how we use 'Z' in our world.  We joined in with some 'Z' songs on the SmartBoard and Mrs. White told us all about her visit to Auckland Zoo with her Dad when she was 10.  She got to meet the elephants who showered her with sand - it was so exciting!

We had the Zoo song, a Zoo story and we wrote a Zoo list - we love 'Z'!

El Gregoe the Magician Visits YMS!

Thanks to our awesome PTA, El Gregoe came to visit our school and spread his magic all around!

We were treated to a show filled with laughter and great messages about caring, being responsible, understanding each other, courage and kindness!

Some of our friends assisted El Gregoe and became part of the brilliant show alongside parrots, parakeets, a rabbit and a Macaw!

Thanks El Gregoe - WE'VE got the power!

Looking after our native birds...

Today at writing we talked about animals and people who look after them. We wrote zoo stories. Mrs White told a story about her Dad who helps keep native birds safe. He walks through the bush to check traps. These traps catch rats, hedgehogs and stoats. These animals eat the babies and eggs of native birds. Here is a photo of Mr C checking a trap.

Telephones...

Today Jake brought in an old telephone to share. We all had lots of great questions for Jake, and he had some super answers too! Thanks Jake, we learned heaps about telephones today!

Wordsworth Castle

Wordsworth Castle is a place for each of us to work on our literacy goals. Some of us use the castle to practise reading sight words; others use Wordsworth Castle to practise essential spelling words. We know that "the more we practise, the better we get"!

Harvesting Sweet Pea Seeds

Today we harvested our sweet pea seeds. We carefully opened up each pod and put the seeds in a container. We plan to replant our sweet peas in Spring.
